Peanuts (groundnuts) are legumes but cause reactions similar to tree nut allergy. Peanut allergy is one of the most prevalent and severe food allergies worldwide.

Must be avoided entirely by allergic individuals

What the research says
Peanut allergy affects ~1-2% of children in Western countries. Only ~20% outgrow it. Oral immunotherapy (OIT) is an emerging treatment. All peanut-containing products must carry prominent allergen warnings.
